Configuration
Guidelines H.323 And SIP
H.323
Fixed IP address
(Your IP address never
changes)
- Make sure the IP
address you use has been added to your
MAXATEL Phone Account. If you did not add
this address while setting up your
account, then add this IP address at the
Access Methods area in the
Control panel, the online account
management system.
- Configure your
equipment to send all telephone calls to a
gateway.
The gateway IP
address is 213.228.232.116.
If possible, we recommend that you use the
DNS named
dnns.maxatel.com.
Dynamic IP address
(Your ISP change your IP address
regularly)
- Make sure that your
MAXATEL Phone Account has been configured for
dynamic IP addresses. If you did not do
this while setting up your account, then
set this option now at the Access
Methods area of your Control panel, the online account
management system.
- Configure your
equipment to send all telephone calls to a
gatekeeper. The gatekeeper IP address is
213.228.232.116.
If possible, we recommend that you use the
DNS name
dnns.maxatel.com.
- Configure your
equipment to register at the gatekeeper
using an E164 alias (telephone number) or
an H.323 alias. The alias address should
be 1822 followed by your MAXATEL Phone Account
number followed by your account password
(emailed to you when you set up your
account). For example, if your account
number is 200100 and your password is
900100, set the E164 alias to be
1822200100900100.
The codecs we support are
G.723.1 and G.729. You should enable both
Fast Start
and
H.245 tunneling.
We support fax calls to
most worldwide destinations. To send faxes,
your gateway must be T.38 compatible and use
the H.323 protocol.
SIP
Fixed IP address
(Your IP
address never changes)
- Make sure the IP
address you use has been added to your
MAXATEL Phone Account. If you did not add
this address while setting up your
account, then add this IP address at the Access Methods area of
Control Panel, the online account management
system.
- Configure your
equipment to send all telephone calls to our SIP
server at sip.maxatel.com.
- It is not necessary to
register with our SIP server.
Dynamic IP address (Your ISP change your IP address
regularly)
- Make sure that your
MAXATEL Phone Account has been configured for
dynamic IP addresses. If you did not do
this while setting up your account, then
set this option now at the Access
Methods area of your Control Panel, the
online account management system.
- Configure your
equipment to register with our SIP server
at sip.maxatel.com.
Our server supports Digest
authentication. You should configure your
device using your MAXATEL Phone Account number
and password.
The codecs we support are
G.723.1 and G.729. We do not support fax
using the SIP protocol.
Audio quality
Audio quality on the Internet based
MAXATEL network is equal to the quality on
standard fixed telephone lines. You will
enjoy the highest voice quality and the
lowest delays if you use an IP phone such as
the Cisco ATA 186 or the Elesign ESC1710.
If you plan to make calls through MAXATEL using
our softphone on your
computer, we offer the following advice:
- Use a headset.
- USB headsets often offer higher
quality than sound card headsets, but are
a little more expensive.
- Do NOT use desktop
speakers for listening to the call.
Although the quality may sound fine to
you, the people you call will hear a
disturbing echo.
Testing
We offer a
simple test facility on our servers that you are
welcome to call for testing. This should work,
even if you do not have a MAXATEL VoIP Phone Pccount. To call it, configure your software or hardware
dialler to send calls to MAXATEL, and then dial
123. You should hear a test announcement. If you
hear this, then your equipment is set up
correctly and you should be able to use MAXATEL
VoIP.
Once you have established an account. Also, make
a call to 124. If you can hear the announcement
on 123, but not the announcement on 124, then
you have a firewall/router related problem.
Commercial terms
Our service is prepay. The quickest and
easiest way to pay us is using our 128bit
SSL 3D-secured pay gateway. Although you should
always allow twenty-four hours for a payment
to be credited to your account, you will
find that your payment is often added to
your MAXATEL Phone Account within a few minutes
of being sent. Please note
that all customers are
also subject to 25%
Value Added Tax.
